In honor of National Women in Construction Week 2023, we are highlighting the variety of roles at Moriarty from the perspective of our women employees. Today’s spotlight is on Project Management:

“My name is Yuxin (Layla) Zhang, and I manage MEP Coordination on the CX Parcel U project in Massachusetts. I have worked in construction for 10 years and at Moriarty for 2 years. I start each day in the field office – and where I go from there depends on the project schedule. I either focus on coordinating mechanical, electrical, plumbing, and fire protection trades (MEP/FP) in BIM, or solving problems in the field with my team. I also interact with engineers, architects, and trades daily. Overall, everyone on my team is very supportive and experienced. The most challenging aspect of my role is the amount of technical knowledge that is required to do my job well. I coordinate everything that goes into a building, from geotechnical sub slab pressure relief system to the rooftop shade radiometer. I enjoy embracing new technology and equipment, navigating changes to code compliance, and witnessing a multitude of testing that is required to ensure all systems will properly function. The most gratifying aspect of my role is that I feel confident building my own house someday. As described by Albert Pine, “What we do for ourselves dies with us. What we do for others and the world remains and is immortal.” Moriarty cares and supports employees while also challenging them to grow. We trust and respect each other in a diverse environment. If you would like a job that never gets boring, and you love digging into issues and solving them, you are perfect for construction!”
